Shade Sail Replacement for J.J. the Orphaned Baby Gray Whale

Preserving Walter’s contribution to the safety and entertainment of visitors to the bronze sculpture of J.J. at Kellogg Park in Ja Lolla, California

Overview

Our goal is to replace the shade sail and repair and paint the structure that protects J.J. and her visitors from the elements. Donors of $250 or more will be recognized on an educational panel that tells the Story of J.J.

Project Description

A bronze sculpture of J.J., an orphaned baby gray whale rescued by SeaWorld in 1997, makes her home at Kellogg Park in La Jolla Shores. Artist D. Lynn Reeves created the artwork to promote the public’s better understanding of nature and our precious marine environment.

In 2012, Walter provided the calculations for the dimensions required for the Shade Sail to allow maximum protection from the sun to keep J.J. cool for her little visitors.
